I am so incredibly lucky that I get to photograph so many incredible Buncombe County Courthouse Weddings. It's no secret that we love getting to visit the magistrate once again for another ceremony and I'm so excited to tell you the details of what our time together might look like if you are considering an Asheville elopement for yourselves!

Buncombe County Courthouse Wedding

We have had an above-average amount of elopements at the Asheville courthouse since the pandemic started back in 2020. The surge of large wedding cancellations hit every wedding vendor in the country ( and lots of the world). Since then, we've gotten to celebrate in many different kinds of ways as our couples have adjusted to the changes. However, we also photograph many couple who just want to skip the stress of having a large wedding and elope with themselves or just their closest friends and family.

One of my recent brides, Kiersten, and I spoke when we met and she was telling us how frustrating the process of finding an Asheville wedding photographer can be. There are quite literally hundreds of local photographers to choose from and it's impossible to pick through them all to find the one you want to hire. Luckily for us, she was able to find us through a Google review of the recent Buncombe County Courthouse wedding we photographed. When she initially reached out, she said our work was exactly what she envisioned when she was imagining her elopement photos.

Within twenty-four hours of her first email, she booked us for their wedding ceremony and the rest is history!

If you are considering booking us as your Asheville Courthouse elopement photographers, then you've made it to the right place. Because I'm going to walk you through exactly what hiring us for Buncombe County Courthouse Wedding looks like for our clients.

There are a couple of options on how to start the photo process once it's go-time. Some of our past elopement clients have still chosen to drive separately and share a First Look outside the doors. Others get ready together in the same house or hotel room and then drive together to meet us. Whichever you choose, we are supportive of either!

We typically meet at the parking garage located directly across from the Buncombe County Courthouse. It's a short walk across the street. We'll go through security, make our way to the magistrate's office and your (very short) wedding ceremony will begin! If you don't have two witnesses, my second photographer and I will do the honors of signing the certificate for you both.

After the technical details are complete, we move on to photos.

Here are the timeline steps:

  • Initial Meeting
  • First Look Outside the Building (Optional)
  • Security Check-In
  • Magistrate Wedding Ceremony
  • The signing of the Marriage Certificates
  • Bathroom Break

Couple Photos Begin:

  • Inside and around the old courthouse
  • Photos in the new courthouse building
  • Head out front to the concrete steps and pillars
  • Walk across the street to the upper level of the parking garage

If you opt to book us for an extra hour or so, we can explore downtown Asheville and hit up some of the other fun options in the area. We have some of our favorite go-to locations listed in this engagement photo blog post.

We can also meet up afterwards for brunch or in the evening for a small reception dinner. The best part of eloping is the opportunity to do exactly what you both want to do with no pressure.

So what do you think? Can you see yourself eloping at city hall?!
