Hanna and Richard's Downtown Asheville courthouse elopement is one of our favorites of all time. Over the past few years, we have continued to transition in shooting more elopements along with our regularly booked full-day weddings. But I am such a sucker for rooftop couples' portraits! Here are all our favorite parts about this fun, intimate wedding day.
Downtown Asheville Courthouse Elopement
We absolutely loved Hanna and Richard's Downtown Asheville Courthouse Elopement. Hanna reached out to us a few months prior after finding us on Instagram (social media just rocks!). And I honestly consider it absolute fate when someone finds us on social media and then we end up being best friends forever. Seriously, I cannot even express how I feel like meeting these two was one of the best experiences in my career. We all immediately hit it off and shared so much laughter and so many smiles during our time working together. But best of all, we walked away feeling like we had just shot one of our dream weddings. We adore shooting smaller, more intimate weddings and this one checked all the boxes of a perfect elopement.
Buncombe County Courthouse
Firstly, I am so honored and proud to be able to photograph so many Buncombe County Courthouse weddings. It's one of the most gorgeous courthouses on the east coast. Its historic ceilings and architecture make it one of my absolute favorite spots to photograph my couples. Secondly, it's in the heart of the most gorgeous city within miles. I'm an Asheville native- born and raised here, and now starting my own family in the area. My heart is so incredibly fond of the city and architecture. The courthouse itself is right across the street from one of my favorite parking garages in the area. If you are looking for gorgeous Asheville views, the top floor should be your go-to. It overlooks the skyline and even has the blue ridge mountains painted behind it so you get the best of both worlds. But the best part is the utter convenience of it being a short walk from where you'll say "I Do". It's our top spot for our couples who are eloping at the courthouse.
Lastly, the inside of the historic courthouse is absolutely breathtaking. Coffered ceilings, marble pillars, red and gold decor from head to toe. Not to mention the stunning picture windows that let in lots of natural light. I can safely say, after shooting elopements for 10 years, that there is no other courthouse that is as drop-dead gorgeous as the Buncombe County courthouse. On the newly renovated side, there are tons of windows and architecture that make for some awesome creative photography. If you scroll down below, you'll see why I say that!
Korean Wedding Ceremony
Hanna and her family have deep Korean roots and wanted to honor those roots by performing a traditional Korean wedding ceremony in Asheville, NC. Multi-cultural weddings are extremely important to us after we had the incredible experience of photographing the traditional Japanese shrine wedding back in 2019. We have also had the pleasure of photographing several others in the past, and truly hope we get to continue capturing them over the years.
For this ceremony, the two honored their parents and loved ones with a tea ceremony in the living room of a very cozy Airbnb.
Eloping in Asheville
If you are planning on eloping in Asheville, the courthouse may just be your first stop along the journey. If so, you can check out their website here to make an appointment to drop by and get your marriage license. If a courthouse elopement isn't your thing, you can always choose a gorgeous mountaintop or waterfall. There are tons of different areas to choose from and we love getting to adventure with all of our couples!
