Today we are giving our best advice on when to book your wedding photographer! That said, every wedding photographer is different. We know that. So I’m speaking personally using my own business and those of fellow photographer friends. If you are on this search, you might be engaged. Or maybe not! But either way, I’m going to help you figure out the best time to start a wedding photography search.
When To Book Your Wedding Photographer?
I booked my photographer first thing after my engagement. Before my husband had even proposed, I knew my choice. I reached out to him about a year and a half before our wedding date. I booked him on the spot!
However, in my opinion, I suggest a year out to my clients. Although, technically, you can never book your photographer early enough. I personally allow my clients to book around two years out. We tend to book up completely around a year in advance. But the very popular dates can book up even sooner than that.
Factors When Booking
There are a couple of different factors to take into consideration when reaching out to potential wedding photographers. First, are you getting married on a holiday and/or extremely popular date? If so, consider that ahead of time. Most vendors book up holiday dates much earlier than others.
Second, have you booked your wedding venue already? We highly recommend booking your venue before booking any other vendors. Photography is important. However, no big decisions should be made until you’ve nailed down your location! This is because it’s important for your photog to know if they will be traveling ahead of time, etc.
When booking your photographer, give yourself enough time to set up meetings or calls with several. You don’t want to feel rushed into making any big decisions before you are comfortable! It’s important you have a great connection with them. And it’s worth taking the proper time to get to know them and how they work. That said, reach out early enough to cover all your bases and ask all your questions.
