Downtown Greenville Engagement Photo Tips

Tip #1: Trust your photographer and arrange your schedule for the perfect time of day

The timing of your engagement photo session is crucial, especially if you want to capture the best lighting or avoid crowds. Although I can totally Photoshop out one or two people, it makes the photo turnaround much longer than if we avoided them altogether.

The early morning or late afternoon is the best time for photos because the light is softer and warmer. Most of my clients opt for a sunset session for that romantic, golden hour vibe. And if you want to avoid crowds, consider scheduling your photo session during the week, as weekends tend to be much busier in downtown Greenville than a Monday or Tuesday evening.

Tip #2: Pick your outfits accordingly

It's true that your outfits can make or break your engagement photo session. It's essential to choose outfits that complement each other and the location. For example, if you're planning to take photos in front of colorful murals, consider wearing solid-colored outfits that won't clash with the art. If you are planning for a more architectural location, neutrals or sleek outfits might look best.

But most of all, plan to wear an outfit that you truly feel comfortable in. It's incredibly important that you feel and look your best so that you feel confident!

Tip #3: Anticipate interaction with your partner

Posing can feel awkward, but it doesn't have to be. To avoid feeling awkward in front of the camera, plan some natural movements and interactions that you can do together. Keep in mind that the best poses are the ones that showcase your love and connection. Don't be afraid to be silly or spontaneous during your photo session. You won't have to worry about where to stand or how to hold your arms because I'll guide you through every step of the way. But as I always tell my clients, just be with your partner. Tell jokes, exchange kisses, snuggle together. The best photos are the ones where my couples are just enjoying themselves and I'm stalking them like the paparazzi.

Best Photo Spots to Choose from in Downtown Greenville

1. Falls Park on the Reedy

Falls Park on the Reedy may be the most popular option in the area. It's a beautiful park located right in the heart of downtown Greenville. It features a stunning waterfall, a suspension bridge, and beautiful gardens. This park is an excellent location for a romantic and natural-looking photo session. The only downfall to shooting here is the number of people in the area- this location is ALWAYS packed, so planning a weekday session may be the best call for this one.

2. Main Street

Main Street is the heart of downtown Greenville, filled with colorful buildings, unique shops, and restaurants. This location is perfect if you're looking for an urban and modern backdrop for your engagement photos. We often start here at the beginning of the session and end up finishing the evening rooftop of one of the downtown parking garages for sunset. It's my go-to suggestion because I truly love the essence of a downtown city engagement session.

3. West End Historic District

The West End Historic District is a charming neighborhood with stunning architecture and tree-lined streets. This location is perfect if you're looking for a classic and timeless spot for your engagement photos. It's such a cozy option and would be super fun in the fall with all the leaves changing as you grabbed coffees together at a local coffee shop. Overall it's a very romantic option if that is the vibe you have in mind!

4. Fluor Field at the West End

This is a unique one! This spot is a local baseball stadium that features a gorgeous green field, colorful seating, and a beautiful view of downtown Greenville. If you both share a love for baseball or sports, this location is perfect for capturing your playful and fun side. It's definitely a well-known staple in the community and it's a really creative option if you are looking for something unique and different than what others are choosing!

6. M. Judson Booksellers

Consider me obsessed. M. Judson Booksellers is an independent bookstore located in downtown Greenville. This location is perfect if you're looking for a cozy and intimate backdrop for your engagement photos. This bookstore features beautiful bookshelves, cozy seating, and a charming atmosphere. You can snuggle on the couches as you read your favorite books together. Another romantic and creative option!

7. Greenville County Museum of Art

The Greenville County Museum of Art is located in downtown Greenville and features an impressive collection of American art. This location is perfect if you're looking for a sophisticated and elegant backdrop for your engagement photos. This museum features beautiful artwork, grandiose hallways, and natural lighting.

8. The Wyche

This option is where Erin and Christian decided they wanted to do their photos. It's a historical landmark located right on the river downtown that is totally open to the public and looks like something out of a magazine. It's brick arches are just stunning and it's one of my favorite spots in the city to photograph my couples.

Where To Eat Dinner Afterwards?

Okay, your engagement session is finished and the very first thing all my couples do afterwards is head somewhere special to eat. You're already dressed up and look incredible, why not make it a date night?!

1. Juniper at The AC Hotel

This is my personal favorite spot to go to dinner with my husband. The AC Hotel has a rooftop bar and restaurant that overlooks the city. It's such a gorgeous spot after sunset and they serve the best cocktails you can find in the area.

2. The Lazy Goat

This spot has a really fun menu and a great city view as well! The food is really amazing (not the best spot for cocktails however) and the service is top-notch. It's a very relaxed vibe and a great spot to end the night on.

3. The Cazbah

The Cazbah is a mega romantic, tapas restaurant that packs a punch. If you have any interest in heading here after photos, be sure to make reservations ahead of time or you won't be able to get in for a late dinner. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and a fun sports bar as well. I highly recommend it!
