Becoming an Asheville birth photographer was not originally a part of my plan when I started my photography career. I was intending to only shoot weddings as a full-time specialty. But life, as we know, had other plans for my journey. Thankfully, I might add.
In April 2015, I shot my very first birth. A favor for a family member that shortly opened up my career path in the best possible way. Y’all, that day in the delivery room changed my path for the better. I absolutely fell in LOVE with the experience. It was a no-brainer that this was something I had an immediate passion for. Seriously, the love in that room was completely overwhelming. For this reason, I introduced babies into my career and portfolio!
Birth Doula Certification
Shortly after, I attended a birth doula certification workshop. A hands-on, 3-day birth class that taught me the ends and outs of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. At the time, I wasn’t intending to become a doula. I am still not. But maybe one day! I just wanted to know my way around the delivery room as a birth photographer and to be able to assist and help my clients in any way that I could.
I do have a flashy birth doula certificate that I have hanging on my wall. Reminding me daily of my love for women’s strength and my passion for birth!
Asheville Birth Photographer
Since then, I’ve worked in a handful of hospitals in and around Asheville, Greenville, and Johnson City. Including a few birth centers as well! I’ve partnered with some birth doulas around the area to help capture the most exciting moments of the process. Luckily for me, my certification gets me in the doors even through COVID security.
But now I am expecting my own little baby boy in April of this year. Oh, how the tables turn! I am nothing but excited about my own journey into motherhood.
